- June 15 Opening Update
The YMCA of Columbia-Willamette has been committed to providing wellness facilities, programs and services in a safe and effective manner for over 150 years. Today, we are excited to share the news that we are gearing up to open under CDC, state and local guidelines (both Oregon and Washington), which have been established to keep our members and staff safe and healthy.
Our Sherwood and Beaverton Hoop Health and Wellness Centers will open for operations, starting on Monday, June 15, at 7 AM.
We are thrilled to share this news with each of you—and look forward to welcoming you back to the Y! And, our Clark County Health and Wellness Center stands ready for Washington State approval to open its doors to you!
Over the past few weeks, our team has been working to develop and implement a broad range of protocols, which help ensure the health and safety of our members and our staff. We would like to use this opportunity to share with you some of the changes you can expect to encounter as you return to the Y.
Specific capacities for each functional area of our facilities have been established in order to ensure proper levels of physical distancing during your visit. Access will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, based on availability and provided that physical distancing protocols can be maintained. We ask that members limit their visit to 60 minutes or less so that we can serve more people in the community.
Communication & Signage
Throughout our facilities, you will encounter new signage and directives describing the protocols and practices that have been put in place. Please let us know if you have any questions. We are here to help in any way we can.
Cleaning & Sanitization
We have increased our protocols for cleaning and sanitization, using products which have been proven to be effective against the COVID-19 virus. Every Y has been deep cleaned prior to reopening. Frequent hand washing is recommended. Fitness studios and equipment will be cleaned before and after each use, and personal sanitization supplies (i.e., hand sanitizer) will be available throughout the facility. We ask that each member wipe down any equipment that they use before and after each use as well.
Protocols to ensure proper levels of physical distancing have been put in place throughout the facility in accordance with both state and local county guidelines. Additional staff will be on hand throughout the facility to assist members and ensure all protocols are followed. Floor markers to direct queuing lines have been put in place in certain areas.
Health & Safety
Upon entry to the Y, our check-in staff will ask each member if they have experienced any COVID-related symptoms. Anyone experiencing these symptoms will not be allowed to enter our facilities. If you have any symptoms or signs of sickness, we ask that you please remain at home.
Personal Protective Equipment
Staff have been provided with personal protective equipment (e.g., non-surgical masks and disposable gloves) for use as needed in the course of their duties. Members are expected to adhere to local guidelines and the recommendations of local county health officers, regarding the use of face coverings while in public when visiting the Y. Members are strongly encouraged to wear face coverings when entering the Y, when moving through our facilities and when near other persons.
During Phase 1 of our Y’s reopening process, guidelines require the temporary suspension of child watch, showers and pool access. As an extra precaution, we will not be resuming in-person group exercise classes as we reopen. During this period, certain services like food service, coffee and vending, which do not easily lend themselves to physical distancing, will also be suspended. Members can expect that we will revisit the activation of some of these services over time in conjunction with local county guidance.
Starting on June 15, our Y will be offering summer camps for children Pre-K through grade 12. For details, please visit our website at ymcacw.org/camps.
Please let us know if you have any questions we can answer for you. Additional information about operational protocols and available services can be found at ymcacw.org/emerging-procedures. We look forward to seeing you soon!
