Our full-service clay studio is open to programming for all ages and abilities. Drop into our weekly Open Clay Studio on Tuesday or Thursday - we provide instruction, clay, glazes and firing included in the session cost. We also have space to hold your projects if you're attending multiple sessions. We can't wait to see you there!

The clay studio's entrance can be found in the back parking lot. Enter the front parking lot of the SE Family YMCA and drive along the left side of the building to the back parking lot.

Clay Studio Classes

Ceramics students are led by a skilled ceramics instructor and our full-service studio suits beginners to advanced artists. You can work independently, or receive guidance from our instructors. We offer an open studio on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-9:00PM.

Come and try hand-building, wheel-throwing, or glazing an already-fired item!

Enrichment

In this camp, students will explore the ceramic medium in our full clay studio!

Our instructors will challenge students to be creative problem solvers and artistic visionaries. This program is for six to 12-year-olds.

Workshops

We offer workshops of three and six weeks out of our Southeast Family Y location. Stay tuned for an updated class list, or email Mackenzie (mstewart@ymcacw.org) for more information.

Six-week workshop, we'll focus on how to center clay and basic shapes (bowls, mugs, handles, and altering) and cover various glaze techniques!

Kids learn various hand-building techniques in three-week workshops to design their plates, platters, and trays. You will learn to create patterns, imprints, and different glazing techniques.

SE Family Y Clay Instructor

Casey Morel is a ceramics instructor in our clay studio. They've been practicing with clay since they were a kid in the YMCA and Parks & Rec programs, and continued to study the art through high school and college. With more than 20 years of experience, Casey enjoys throwing on the wheel, altering pieces and creating whimsical, nature inspired pieces. Casey has experience in hand (coil and slab) building, throwing small to medium pieces and exploring intricate forms.
