Teens Leadership Program
Teens become role models and civil leaders, using the learn-by-doing philosophy.
Teen Center Ambassador Program
Teens gain valuable skills of leadership, creativity, and volunteerism. Opportunities to serve and work on planning service projects, dances, fundraising, BBQ’s, and more!
Friday Fellowship | Summer
Middle and High school students are welcome to spend summer Fridays with us as we engage in the Bible, and other activities. Lunch is provided by generous donations from many local businesses.
Teens aged 11–14, can participate in our certified American Red Cross babysitter’s course to become the best babysitter in your neighborhood. Please bring a lunch.
Middle School Dance
Move your body and dance! is a monthly middle school dance that supports health and wellness. All chaperones must apply with our Teen Supervisor. School dress code applies to all dances.
Pickup Basketball: Tuesday & Thursdays from 6:45 PM–8:45 PM
Pickup Volleyball: Thursday 7:30 PM–8:30 PM
Youth Cardio Orientations
This 45 minute session is designed for youth ages 8–13, on how to safely use cardio equipment. Upon completion of the course, youth may use the cardio equipment and track when accompanied and under the direct supervision of a parent or responsible adult. Youth must wear their Youth Cardio Badge when using the facility. Not necessary if completed Teen Strength Training. Free to all Facility Members. Please make appointments at the Personal Fitness Center.
Build lifelong skills in the water with the YMCA Dragons Swim Team. Commitment, dedication, time management and leadership skills are taught and practiced daily. Our training groups fit individual’s specific abilities and goals.

- What does it cost to participate in the Sherwood Teen Center?
Our Teen Center is free to any students in grade 6–12, regardless of YMCA membership.
- What is the policy for participating in the Sherwood Teen Center?
Teens interested in joining the Teen Center need to complete a short registration form in order to participate in any of our activities.
- What activities do you offer through the Sherwood Teen Center?
Inside our Teen Center youth will find classic table top games like air hockey, ping-pong, foosball and pool tables alongside XBox, PS2 and Nintendo Wii games. In addition, we also offer regularly scheduled group activities like dances, homework club, service projects, athletics, classes and more.
- What is the cost to participate in the Teen Center’s Middle School Dances?
Middle School Dances cost $8.
- Is there a check-in policy for the Teen Center’s Middle School Dances?
Yes, our check-in procedure is the same as the Court dances. All students will be required to provide ID. Dances start at 7:30 PM. and end at 10:30 PM.

The Teen Strength Training class is designed to help youth ages 12–14, to learn how to use fitness equipment safely and effectively while developing an age-appropriate workout. Contact Doreen at 503.862.4022 for more information.
- Who decides what activities or events take place at the Teen Center?
The Youth Advisory Council works with teens to plan Teen Center Events and make important decisions that impact the Teen Center.
- Are parents allowed to get involved in the Teen Center?
Yes, we're always looking for teen volunteers for our Youth and Family programs. Our staff wants to partner with parents to help teens reach their full potential. For more information on serving in the Teen Center or at Teen Center events contact us at 503.825.9622.
- What are some of the activities or classes made available through the Teen Center?
Throughout the year we offer a variety of activities and classes to help teens reach their full potential. Such activities or classes include (but are not limited to):
Traveling Teens | Fun filled trips, approximate cost is $20–$30 and includes transportation and one meal.
Babysitter Training | This class is designed to teach youth ages 11–15 the fundamentals of babysitting.
Teen Fitness Club | This club is designed to help teens get energized about life and fitness.
Teen Pick-up Basketball | Friday afternoons at 3:30 PM–4:30 PM on the Sport Court.
Teen Strength Training | This training is designed to help youth ages 12–14 learn how to use fitness equipment safely and effectively while developing an age-appropriate workout.
