SENIOR STRENGTH AND COMMITMENT
Our Active Older Adults programs help seniors maintain a healthy lifestyle and engaged community. Our programs include healthy eating seminars, group fitness classes and events designed to promote mental agility, good health and independence. Programs are open to all ages. We offer a variety of classes such as Chair Yoga, Functional Fitness, Bible Study, Tai Chi and more.

AOA Group Exercise Classes
Increase muscular strength, range of movement, and balance with hand held weights, elastic tubing, and SilverSneakers® balls. Chairs are used for support.
Jump in for a fun low impact, shallow-water class that improves agility, flexibility and endurance. No swimming ability needed. A SilverSneakers® kickboard or other aquatic equipment is used to improve strength, balance and coordination.
Increase cardiovascular and muscular endurance with a standing circuit workout with a focus on upper body using weights. Chair support can be used ;if needed.
Move through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered so you can perform a variety of seated & standing postures to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement.
Advanced class for active adults. Safe and effective low impact cardiovascular workout. Energizing and easy to follow moves for total body conditioning to increase cardiovascular & muscular endurance. Strength training also offered.
Zumba® Gold is designed to meet the needs of the active older participant, as well as those just starting their journey to a fit and healthy lifestyle. It's a dance-fitness class set to zesty Latin music, like Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, and Reggaton.
This class is designed to safely lead you through gentle stretches and yoga poses to increase strength, flexibility, and balance. Blocks, straps and other props may be used to modify yoga poses. Students leave class feeling relaxed and renewed.

MFBB | Movement For Better Balance
Therapeutic set of rhythmic and functional Tai Chi movements designed to assist with strength and mobility.
All set at a slow, calming pace. Sept 18 – Dec 4, Tuesday, Thursday 1 PM. Members $30, Program Participants $60.
TaijiFit : Flow into Better Aging
A new way to embrace the benefits of tai chi – easy to follow moves, to allow you to flow into movement.
Open to all levels. No experience necessary. Space is limited. Wednesday Sept 18 – Dec 4, 1 PM–1:45 PM. Members $30,
Program Participants $60.
NEW Seated TaijiFit : Flow into Better Aging

Classic Yang Style Beginner and Advance
Beginners work on the Tai Chi 8 forms (poses) Advance works on the Tai Chi 24 form. Students will work on individual forms and also gain an understanding of the martial arts application of each form. Cost Members $50, Program Participants $100.
*Prerequisite: Must complete beginner class before progressing to advance class.
Beginner: Sept 20–Dec 6, Friday 2;15 PM–3 PM
Advanced: Sept 16 – Dec 6, Monday 2:15 PM – 3 PM
Is a gentle, physical exercise that is excellent for joint mobility, balance and focus. Learn Yang style Tai Chi, working on the traditional 8 & 24 forms. Nia Fall into Fitness Special Session (7 weeks)
Nia is a cardio-dance workout that combine 52 simple moves with dance arts, martial arts, and healing arts to get you fit in 60 minutes - body, mind, emotion, and spirit. Nia is based on the intelligent design of the body. Each workout brings mindfulness to your dance movement experience leaving you energized, mentally clear, and emotionally balanced. Join us for this special session to experience the various aspects of Nia including: Classic Nia, Movement to Heal, 52 Moves, Free Dance, and Move IT (Interval training).
No experience necessary. Open to all fitness levels and ages.

AOA Fitness Camps
Hip Strength and Flexibility with Caz
Specialty Boot Camps with corrective exercises are offered for the aging body. A special fitness camp with the focus on hips to gain strength, mobility, stability, flexibility and balance. Wednesdays from 8:30 AM-9:30 AM, Oct.2 - Oct. 30, 2019.
Open to all ages. Pickleball is a paddle ball sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a Wiffle Ball, over a net.
Join Doug and the Independence Academy in a friendly game or two of Corn Hole. No experience necessary. Corn Hole is a lawn game in which players take turns throwing bags of plastic resin at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. A bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the board scores 1 point. Play continues until a team or player reaches or exceeds the score of 21 by means of cancellation scoring

Qi Gong for Better Balance

Qi (Chee) Gong means “energy cultivation” and includes gentle joint rotations, graceful movements and mindful breathing to promote better balance, less stress and more energy. Reserve your spot now.

Senior Wellness Faire
Join us for next year's Senior Wellness Faire on May 27, 2020 10 AM–noon. Senior Wellness Faire attendees learn about the opportunities that are available to help prevent disease and injury—improve and enhance the quality of your life. Find inspiration and motivation to be an advocate for your own health and dive into the positive perceptions of aging.

Friendship, Faith and Wellness
Join the YMCA Chaplain and join our book club where we will learn how to reach out highest level of health and contentment through small, focused changes. The first book will be Quantum Wellness by Kathy Freston. Monday Sept.16 – May 25, 11:30 AM–12:30 PM.
