Summer weather makes it easy to get outside, soak up the sun and spend time being active. As the seasons change, it can be easy to fall back into comfortable habits. There are so many ways to stay motivated and excited about fitness at the YMCA. Here are some tips for finding something at your Y that works for you! 

Set a Goal

Take a moment to think about what your goals are—weight loss, flexibly, endurance, strength training, building friendships, other? Our new app is live and makes setting goals easy. You’ll find access to healthy living resources and motivational tools while interacting with your community. You can set up friendly challenges against friends and family too!

Find a Group Exercise Class 

We offer a variety of classes for people of all ages. Different classes cater to different goals, needs and accommodations. Finding a strong match is an important step. There are over 500 free group exercise classes offered a week at our Health and Wellness facilities throughout the greater Portland area. Check out some of classes and facility offerings to find a place that works for you. 

  • Yoga—Great for flexibility, recovery and mindfulness
  • Cycling—Great for weight loss, endurance and cardio
  • Zumba & Dance—Great for fun, cardio, community and endurance
  • Swimming—Great for gentle exercise, life-skill training and variety

Buddy Up  

Let’s face it, we all can use extra motivation. Bringing a pal with you on your fitness journey can help you reach your goals and commit to attending class. Find a class that both you and a friend will enjoy—everything is more fun with a buddy to sweat it out! Or, find a class with like-minded people, and the community connection will keep you going. At the Y, a supportive community is a big part of wellness. At every age and every level of activity, you’ll find people just like you looking to live a little bit healthier. Members and program participants often cite the support and enthusiasm of fellow participants and staff as some of the key factors in their achievement of greater well-being. 

Attend a Social Activity
