A Multifaceted Perfection

A Multifaceted Perfection

Chaplain, Bob Reichen

I had a great appointment with one of our Y volunteers this past month and in the course of our conversation we discussed the value of the Bible in our lives. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, writer and theologian of the 20th century said, “When you read the Bible, think that here and now God is speaking.”

As we read the Bible we get closer to God through immediacy. The prophet Isaiah reminds us, “If you wonder off the road to the right or the left, you will hear his voice behind you saying, here is the road. Follow it.”—Isaiah 30:21

God’s Word also brings up cautions that remind us of the importance of discernment. In the wisdom literature in the book of Proverbs it says. “Look around, cultivate judgment, hear instruction, be aware of what goes on in the public squares.”—Proverbs 1

The Bible reveals that God is the God of immediacy, He is also the God of the persistent search. The perfection of God’s Word is not boiled down but running over.
