Beaverton Hoop YMCA Campaign


Our vision is simple—purchase the property and continue to provide programs in the Beaverton community for many years to come. Our goal is straightforward—provide programs that inspire individuals of all ages to lead healthy lives and build life skills.

The YMCA has leased and operated the Beaverton Hoop YMCA since 2008, and our lease expires in mid-2020. This location is a unique offering in the greater metropolitan area, containing six basketball courts, locker rooms and a mezzanine for health and wellness programs for adults. These programs include Silver&Fit, SilverSneakers, Senior Circuit and Zumba Gold programs, which serve more than 240 active older adults each year.

The property sits on more than five acres in Beaverton, Oregon. Currently there are two buildings on the property. The building the YMCA leases is about 50,000 square feet in size. The second building is nearly 14,000 square feet and is currently rented by the City of Beaverton. The property owner has given us an option to purchase the entire property for $5 million, which we have validated with an independent appraisal. The seller is willing to carry $2.5 million at 5 percent interest only for 10 years. Thus, we will need to raise the other $2.5 million in capital. We have until May 31, 2019, to exercise the first of two options with a $125,000 nonrefundable payment.

Capital Campaign Goal

The Need

The owner of the Beaverton Hoop YMCA facility may decide to repurpose the facility as an industrial space, at the end of our lease, which, for him, is more profitable. Without equity in the property all operators thus far, including the YMCA, have found it extremely difficult to breakeven on expenses. By raising the money to purchase the property, we ensure that kids, families and seniors continue to access quality, affordable YMCA programs at this unique facility.

The Solution

Raising capital contributions will enable the YMCA of Columbia-Willamette to purchase the property and will ensure that the Beaverton Hoop YMCA continues to serve kids, families and seniors for many, many years.

Phase Two

Providing quality child care services in the future, in the second smaller building, will meet the needs of many single-parent and dual-working families in need of financial assistance. The second phase of our capital development plan is to renovate this second building to provide these early childhood development programs. That can only be possible if the YMCA owns the property.
